“ This is the finest Italian bakery/Italian deli anywhere in Essex County. I don't live in Montclair any longer but when I come back, it's the first spot I go to. So many places these days are on Instagram and just trying to be cute.. Nicolo's just has the best food and best service around. Everything they make is top-notch their frittatas are world class. If you are in Montclair, I suggest you stop into this place. You won't be disappointed. ”

“ My parents are from Brooklyn. Lived in Brooklyn for over 10 years. This bread took them to their childhood. ”
“ I had the Italian sandwich. It's the best I've ever had in. The bread is excellent. It's probably the best Deli and MONTCLAIR or even the area. I also like to pepper an egg sandwiches for breakfast, which are excellent. ”
“ Do I feel like I'm "stepping out" on Belgiovine's when I'm in Montclair but decide to come here instead? (I do.) But it'll only take one visit for you to be a true believer as well. It's small. You walk in and aside from the squad of friendly workers at both main counters you'll first encounter the amazing breads (and treats). All the shapes, styles and sizes your carb-loving heart desires will be found on one of these racks. Expertly made... dense, sturdy, flavorful, with a mighty crust (that'll give your Fixodent a workout!). Take a few steps towards the 'back' and now you're at the deli and it's overflowing with options. Each item looks bewitching and alluring and before you can even finish saying, "A pound of..." - somehow it's already sliced and bagged and the guy is waiting on the next item you need. (Maybe it's that luscious square of eggplant parm that they've intentionally left "posed" on top of the spatula or the Italian hot dog platter or that mountain of sauteed broccoli rabe that you know it's going to have that perfect 'bite'.) And as soon as you get home you immediately start crafting what's to be a most perfect sandwich with their seeded semolina, fresh ball of mootz (so creamy and delectable), and a few other odds-and-ends you snagged. Thank goodness this town is big enough for more than one amazing Italian deli and I don't have to pick which is my all-time fave. ”
“ Famous for their exceptional Italian breads & great sandwiches! Fast paced deli counter with every kind of Italian sandwich made to order . Personally I enjoy chicken cutlets & broccoli rabe on a baguette or peppers & eggs frittata on a baguette or the grilled eggplant sandwich. Gets really busy here around lunchtime so better to go early! ”
“ Exactly what you think of when you think of Italian sandwich joint. My partner and his dad come here as a priority anytime they're in the area, and it all makes sense. It's a neighborhood institution that everyone needs to try at least once when they visit. Some favourites are obviously the italian subs, the chicken/eggplant parm, and the baked goods. You really can't go wrong. ”
“ The quintessential Italian sub sandwich experience. I've been here only twice in 5 years and both times I left extremely satisfied by the food and deeply saddened that I live so very far from Nicolo and his amazing deli. A wall to wall feast for the eyes and the belly :P I still want to eat literally everything I spotted behind the glass counters because it all looks so delicious. You can tell this is a local hidden gem just from the vibe you get walking thru the door and listening to the way they interact with the customers. Friendly and efficient in a way that says, "You may be busy so let's get you happily fed and on your way!" I would totally see myself becoming a regular and gladly putting on a few extra pounds for it. It's everything you're looking for in an Italian deli. Fresh crusty warm bread with a pillowy interior piled high with cold cuts, cheese and fresh or pickled veggies & toppings. I would make a recommendation but everything I've had here (6 sandwich types) has been perfect! So just go with your craving. If I was pressed to offer a sandwich recommendation I might say you can't go wrong with a GOOD Italian sub and make no mistake this a GREAT Italian sub! Now I may get some flack for revealing that I like to request a bit of mayo on mine, but hey don't knock it till you try it & to each his own :) Decent parking around back and during the warmer months you can sit out on their little side patio and absolutely inhale your sub al fresco. ”
